Dentures in North Phoenix

Whether all or some teeth are missing, North Phoenix patients can receive dentures to replenish the look and function of their smiles. Dr. Dotson may recommend these dental appliances as a conservative, yet versatile replacement for absent dentition. These removable options will allow you to maintain proper oral hygiene while also bolstering the condition of your gums and overall facial structure.

What are the Benefits of Getting Dentures?

At Tatum Highlands Dentistry, we have observed that our formerly edentulous patients enjoy the advantages provided by their dentures. Occupying the empty spaces in your smile, dentures stimulate gum tissue which promotes and maintains the integrity and health of your face. Dentures are meant to be as sturdy as genuine teeth, enabling patients to chew food properly, contributing to better digestion. Patients also report improved social function, such as clearer speech, after receiving these dental prosthetics.

Partial Dentures

When several teeth are absent from an otherwise complete smile, Dr. Dotson may suggest partial dentures. This option offers the same effectiveness of their full-arch counterparts while also keeping the remaining natural teeth from shifting into vacant spaces, preserving dental balance.

Complete Dentures

There are two types of dentures that are offered to replace an entire arch of teeth: conventional and immediate. Prior to receiving either type, the oral environment, which includes any remaining teeth and the gums, is prepared to give the dentures a secure fit.

Conventional full dentures are created and placed after the patient’s gum tissue has adequately recovered. By contrast, immediate dentures are fabricated in advance so that they can be placed at the preparation appointment. This means that patients in the North Phoenix area can have a full smile during the healing process, but should follow-up with Tatum Highlands Dentistry once the gums have healed, as the dentures may require adjustment.

What is Involved in Getting Dentures?

In order to create custom-fit dentures, impressions will be taken to provide highly accurate measurements of your smile. Dr. Dotson will work with you to ensure these prosthetics are the proper shape and color. Your dentures will also be adjusted and placed precisely to ensure a comfortable fit.

Your muscles and gum tissue will need to adjust to your new dentures. During this period, it is normal to experience increased saliva flow and sensitivity. It may also take time before speaking and chewing with your dentures feels natural.

After the procedure, patients to our Desert Ridge dental practice will receive care instructions that will maximize the longevity of their new dental appliance and oral health through proper home care habits.
